Clonmel On Ice: a real ice rink comes to Market Place this Christmas
Clonmel is getting a real ice rink this Christmas. Clonmel On Ice opens in mid-November in the former Superquinn building on Market Place and runs through Christmas and the New Year until mid-January. It is the first major initiative of Clonmel BID's Christmas programme, and the most ambitious event the town centre has seen in years.
This is real ice, not a synthetic surface, delivered by the team behind South Dublin On Ice, Point Village On Ice, Sligo On Ice and Malahide On Ice — an experienced team with a track record of successful rinks across Ireland.
Market Place, back in business
The Superquinn building has been vacant for well over a decade. For two months this winter it will be the busiest address in Clonmel. Its position on Market Place puts every skater within a short walk of the town's shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, so the benefit of the rink reaches well beyond its doors.
Skating for everyone
Public skating runs throughout the season, alongside:
Birthday parties and group bookings
School sessions, bookable through a dedicated schools form
Sensory sessions every Tuesday at 6pm and Sunday at 10am, with lower lighting, reduced music and fewer skaters on the ice. The rink is fully accessible and carers skate free.
Families from Clonmel and Tipperary who have travelled further afield to skate in previous years now have a rink on their doorstep — and we expect it to draw visitors from right across the region.
What it means for the town
Clonmel BID exists to bring more people into the town centre and to make it a stronger place to do business. A real ice rink in the middle of town across the busiest trading weeks of the year does exactly that. We are encouraging every business in Clonmel to make the most of it: extended opening hours, offers for skaters, seasonal windows. Clonmel On Ice reflects the ambition of the businesses that voted to establish the BID. This is the first of our Christmas plans for 2026, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
Calling vendors
Clonmel On Ice is also an opportunity for local businesses and producers. Clonmel BID is inviting expressions of interest from vendors who would like to trade within the rink building for the duration of the season. We are particularly interested in hearing from:

Merchandise

Bookings are open at www.clonmelonice.ie. Weekend, school holiday and pre-Christmas slots will go quickly, so book early. School and group bookings are made through the group booking pages on the same site.
