Clonmel's ratepayers have voted decisively to establish a Business Improvement District for the town. In a postal ballot run by Tipperary County Council between 14 April and 13 May, 482 votes were cast in favour and 85 against — 85% support on a turnout of 59%.

The result means Clonmel joins Sligo and Dublin as one of the few Irish towns to have secured a BID, and gives the town a dedicated annual budget of around €350,000 for the next five years.

On behalf of everyone involved, thank you to every business that took the time to vote, to Tipperary County Council for running the ballot, and to the volunteer proponents group who spent more than two years getting the proposal to this point.

What happens next: the result goes to the elected members of Tipperary County Council for formal approval, after which the BID company is established, a board appointed and the first projects — starting with Christmas 2026 — get under way.
